Stellar (XLM) is a decentralized blockchain platform that aims to facilitate cross-border transactions between different currencies and payment systems. The platform was created by Jed McCaleb, the co-founder of Ripple, and launched in 2014. Stellar's main goal is to provide a fast, secure, and low-cost way to transfer money across borders, especially in developing countries where traditional banking systems are often unreliable or inaccessible. Stellar's native cryptocurrency, XLM, is used to facilitate transactions on the platform and to incentivize network participants. XLM can be used to pay transaction fees, to purchase other cryptocurrencies, or to trade on various exchanges. The total supply of XLM is capped at 50 billion, with around 20 billion currently in circulation. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XLM is not mined, but rather distributed through a process called "inflation" which rewards network participants with new XLM tokens each year. Overall, Stellar and XLM aim to provide a more inclusive and accessible financial system that benefits everyone, regardless of their location or financial status. |
